Thousands gather on the Congress Ave Bridge for the Annual Austin Bat Fest and Night of The Bat.jpg
Throw together a million bats, an iconic bridge, 40,000 Austinites and the usual street food, beer and live music and what you get is a festival that truly represents our city's attitude like no other: the Austin Bat Fest. This year, as an added bonus, Bat Fest will be held along with Night of the Bat on Saturday, August 27, on the Congress Ave. Ann Richards Bridge. When it comes to keeping it weird, celebrating bats is a good way to go.Austin has the largest urban bat colony in North America, which helped the little critters become the city's unofficial mascots.Staying true to the Austin way, the Bat Fest features an array of local favorites when it comes to music. Artists schedule for this year's event include Bob Schneider, Nakia, Alpha Rev, The Black and White Years, White Ghost Shivers, Akina Adderley and the Vintage Playboys, DaHeBeGeBee, Suzanna Choffel, Pretty Ugly and La Guerrilla. Even more bands are expected to join this amazing lineup soon.Besides the music and the bat-watching, Bat Fest will have approximately 150 booths set up along the Festival Area, located on the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. The booths will feature arts and crafts such as pottery, jewelry, fine art, woodwork, stained glass, metal sculpture, mosaics, glasswork, photography and much more.
